The Team Behind The Scenes

Our team recruits new members, manages and coordinates facility and program needs and are present to provide support in a variety of ways for every department. Clinical Staff- perhaps something about their level of experience or what they bring to MA to round out the team?

Michael Thon Montana Academy Staff

Mike Thon

Mike Thon

Mike chose to take early dismissal from school to start a job at a Papa Murphy’s.   He excelled at this and became a manager after just a year.  After five years of constant work he decided to make the move to Montana in 2005.  He took a technician job in the rental department at Blacktail Ski Resort, where he still makes guest appearances to this day.  Not being full time led him to an up and coming restaurant, The Tamarack in Lakeside, MT.  Mike spent almost a decade cooking before making the move to Montana Academy.

Why do you work here?

A good family friend attended Montana Academy in its early years.  She heard I was thinking about cooking again and said mealtime was some of her favorite memories.  That said, I am here to put smiles on everyone’s faces.

Interests

When Mike is not working, he heads for the slopes, hangs out by the lake, and visits with family and friends.

Alexis Somerville

Prior to coming to Montana Academy, Alexis worked for seven years for Walmart Corporation in Kalispell, Montana. There she held a variety of positions to include sales associate, department manager, as well as a temporary position as an assistant manager on the Remodel Team assigned to the Helena store.

Prior to moving to Montana in 2010, she lived and worked in the British Virgin Islands for more than 15 years. Since her passion lies in the preparation of outstanding meals, she had the amazing opportunity to work as a chef on chartered yachts in the British Virgin Islands. This was an exciting position that fanned the flames of her love of cooking.

Why do you work here?

Working at Montana Academy has been a dream-come-true for me. My love of cooking, combined with my skills at dealing with people from many backgrounds, makes this more than a job; it’s exactly what I was born to do. When I see the faces of the young people at Montana Academy, some of whom so desperately need the care and compassion that a school like this affords them, I feel blessed to play a part, albeit a small part, in their successful growth to strong, happy and successful adults. Those who know me best say that I was “made for this job”, and I agree.

Interests

Besides food preparation, Alexis’ interests are diverse. she enjoys anything that takes her into the outdoors – hiking, camping, and being with friends around a campfire. Responsible hunting and fishing are also passions, as the meat that she hunts not only serves to feed her family; she also donates large portions to people in her community who are in need.
